The Philadelphia 76ers have parted ways with Daryl Morey, the team’s President of Basketball Operations, concluding his six-season tenure with the franchise. This move signals the start of a significant offseason overhaul for the organization.
Morey took over the team ahead of the 2020-21 season, following the Sixers’ first-round playoff exit at the hands of the Boston Celtics in the Orlando bubble. During that compressed offseason, he made several key moves that laid the foundation for regular-season success. However, Philadelphia consistently failed to advance beyond the second round of the playoffs.
Tensions escalated during the 2025-26 campaign. Joel Embiid publicly urged the front office to bolster the roster before the trade deadline, but the team’s only notable move was trading Jared McCain for future draft picks. In early April, Embiid directly called out Morey when asked about his absence from a game against the Washington Wizards on April 1.
Head coach Nick Nurse is expected to return for his fourth season, while Bob Myers will lead the search for Morey’s replacement, overseeing a restructuring of the team’s front office.
