German football legend Alexandra Popp is determined to cap her remarkable 14-year tenure at VfL Wolfsburg with a fairy-tale ending—by clinching the DFB-Pokal title.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s final against reigning champions Bayern Munich, Popp said, “I would be incredibly happy if I could win the cup once more with Wolfsburg.”
The veteran star is set to join Borussia Dortmund, who are competing for promotion to the second division. Born near Dortmund, she has supported the club since childhood.
After undergoing an intensive rehabilitation program to recover from a calf muscle injury, Popp is ensuring she gives the best possible farewell to Wolfsburg.
“Winning the cup would be a perfect conclusion to my time here,” added Popp, who has won seven Bundesliga titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies with the club.
